ISLAMABAD, Feb 26: The opposition members belonging to the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy have submitted an adjournment motion to the National Assembly to discuss the Sindh situation with reference to the removal of revenue minister Imtiaz Sheikh on corruption charges by Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim.
Sources told Dawn that 13 ARD members submitted the motion under Rule-92 of the Rules and Procedure for Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 1992, on Thursday.
The sources said the ARD members, through the motion, had questioned the role of the National Accountability Bureau in the whole affair as it had not taken any step after the two top Sindh cabinet members accused each other of committing massive corruption.
The motion says: "As reported in the media, Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim and his former senior minister Imtiaz Sheikh have levelled serious allegations of corruption against each other but the NAB has not taken any action in this regard. This is a clear, deliberate ignorance and inefficiency of the NAB as well as the failure of the government for not taking any action in such serious matter which has caused grave concern amongst the general public. The matter may, therefore, please be discussed on the floor of the house, adjourning the business of the National Assembly."
Earlier on Wednesday, ARD Chairman Makhdoom Fahim had also raised the issue on a point of order in the National Assembly session. Mr Fahim criticized the NAB for not taking any action despite the fact that the Sindh chief minister and former revenue minister had presented documentary proofs of corruption against each other.
He said this showed that the NAB had been created only to victimize the political opponents.
Through the motion, the sources said the opposition mostly wanted to target the NAB and not the two persons.
