SAHIWAL: Snatched car seized during 'shootout'

SAHIWAL, Feb 26: Police recovered a snatched car during an hour-long crossfire with three dacoits near Chak 136/9-L here on Friday night.

The bandits, however, managed to escape. Reports said the Grain Market police intercepted a car (LXR-6914) on the bypass road. On seeing the policemen, the outlaws opened fire. During the shootout, the bandits left the car and managed their escape through the crops.

WHEAT SEIZED: The anti-corruption establishment has conducted a raid and seized a truck laden with 130 bags of wheat.

Reports said the ACE got information that wheat bags were being shifted from Ghaziabad godown to Chichawatni for sale by food inspector Khalid Akram. On this, a raiding team, comprising ACE circle officer Shafiq Khan Baloch and judicial magistrates Khawar Rafique and others, was formed. The team set up a picket near Chak 10/11-L and impounded the truck (MR-3275).

The ACE has registered a case under Section 409/109 of the PPC and 52/47 of the PCA.

VISIT: An 11-member delegation of the Communist Party of India visited Sahiwal here on Saturday under the leadership of Harsh Ajeet Singh. PPP district president Mehr Ghulam Farid Kathia and other ARD leaders accorded a warm welcome to the Indian team and expressed the hope that such visits would bring both the countries closer.
