LAHORE: Robbers kill shopkeeper on resistance

LAHORE, Feb 24: Robbers shot dead a shopkeeper on resistance on Allama Iqbal Road on Thursday.

Police said two armed men stormed into the shop of Zulqarnain (24), a resident of Gulshan-i-Ravi, and collected cell phones, calling cards besides snatching three gold chains and rings worth Rs250,000 from the shopkeeper.

When Zulqarnain tried to overpower one of them, the other opened fire on him. He sustained a bullet injury and the armed men managed their escape. The injured was taken to the Services Hospital where he died.

Three dacoits looted cash, gold and valuables worth Rs2 million from the house of a doctor in Nishtar Colony. Dr Ejaz Nasir told the police that the gunmen burst into his house and held up the inmates. They collected cash, gold and valuables and also drove away with a car.

ARRESTED: Police claimed on Thursday to have busted two gangs of robbers. Six members of the gang busted in Nawankot were identified as Yousaf, Ashraf, Nazim, Imran, Manzoor and Mushtaq. Booty worth Rs700,000 was seized from them.

Three members of the second gang - Akram, Shahzad and Ghulam Rasool - were arrested in Garhi Shahu and three pistols and booty worth thousands of rupees were recovered from them.

SUICIDE: A boy committed suicide after a quarrel with his family inside Bhati Gate on Thursday. Majid scolded his son, Hafiz Tayyab (17), for not taking interest in his studies. The boy locked himself in his room and shot himself dead.
