GUJRANWALA, Feb 23: The district and sessions court on Wednesday sought the record of a prisoner who despite acquittal in a murder case by the Lahore High Court seven years back could not be released yet.

The prisoner, Abid Mahmood, of Khatala Gujrat sent an application to the session court from jail, stating that he was sentenced to life by session court in a murder case, but the LHC acquitted him in an appeal.

He stated that despite his acquittal by the lower court of Wazirabad in other cases also, he was in jail for the last seven years and not being released. District and Sessions Judge Javed Iqbal Siddiqui sought concerned record from the courts to look into the matter.

AWARDED DEATH: A court handed down death sentence to an accused, Zahid Mahmood, in a murder case here on Wednesday. Judge Nazir Asad ordered Zahid to pay a compensation of Rs100,000 to the heirs of deceased. According to the prosecution, the convict killed his cousin Liaqat Ali over a domestic dispute on Oct 20 last year in Garjakh.
