TOBA TEK SINGH: Three constables held for negligence

TOBA TEK SINGH, Feb 22: City police arrested on Tuesday its muharrar head constable Rana Shamshad and two constables Riaz Ahmad and Iftikhar Ali on charges negligence due to which three members of a car-lifters' gang escaped by cutting iron bars of the lockup on Monday morning.

All the three accused - Francis Masih of Layyah, Saleem and Yaseen of Sahiwal - were arrested a few weeks ago when they had lifted the car of local civil judge Sheikh Muhammad Kashif. During investigation, they had confessed stealing of scores of vehicles, including the pickup of local politician Ghiasuddin Janbaz.

The DPO had prohibited their meeting with anyone but even then they succeeded to get an iron cutter. One of their accomplices, Nazir of Mamoon Kanjun, could not escape due to his fatness and suffered injuries in his belly. The DPO claimed that special teams had been sent for the arrest of the absconders.

CONVENTION: A PML-N workers' convention elected Chaudhry Amjad Ali Javed and Advocate Rana Muhammad Anwar president and secretary-general respectively on Tuesday. Their names were proposed by former district president Asadur Rehman.

Addressing the participants, former MNA Hamza accused the government of implementing the agenda of World Bank and other international agencies as a result poor people were facing price-hike.
