KARACHI, Feb 22: Abdul Sattar Mustikhan, a prominent Baloch leader, and an activist of the Pakistan Movement, died here on Tuesday morning after a protracted illness. He was 80.

He was buried at the Mewashah Graveyard, and his funeral was attended by a large number of his friends, relatives and admirers. He leaves behind two sons, a daughter. Waja Abdul Sattar Mustikhan, the last scion of Usman Mustikhan, who had been a social worker and a philanthropist, was unanimously elected chief of the Baloch community in 1938.

Being an activist of the Pakistan Movement, he was appointed salar of the National Guards in 1947. After the creation of Pakistan, he was appointed secretary-general of the Pakistan Muslim League (Karachi Division). He continued to hold the office for quite some time and had a close relationship with the scions of Sir Haji Abdullah Haroon.

During the late 60s, he laid the foundation of the Baloch Educational Society which managed a secondary school and a college in Lyari to provide free education facility to the residents of of the area.

The late Mustikhan also had a close relationship with leaders in Balochistan, particularly late Mir Ghaus Bakhsh Bizenjo. In the 70s, when the defunct National Awami Party formed the government, he offered his technical services to the government for the establishment of Bolan Medical College Complex.
