KARACHI: Mineral resources in Sindh being exploited
KARACHI, Feb 21: Sindh Chief Secretary Mohammad Aslam Sanjrani has said that Sindh is rich with mineral resources, particularly Thar desert has vast reserves of coal, granite, China clay etc.
These reserves are being developed in greater national interest and prosperity and economic wellbeing of the province, Mr Sanjrani said. He was talking to a delegation of participants of 16th Advanced Diplomats Course/24th specialized diplomatic course of Pakistan Foreign Service Academy at his office here on Monday.
The delegation comprised the foreign service officers from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Bronai, Brondi, Malive, Cambodia, Ghana, Libya, Madagaskar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. The team leader Amjad Ali Shaikh said that participants of the course are on study tour of federal and all the four provincial capitals, starting from Karachi.
IGP Asad Jehangir, Additional Chief Secretary Local Government, Saleem Khan, Secretaries Mines, Hameed Akhund Secretary Planning and Development Anzar Hussain Zaidi, Secretary Agriculture Sabhago Khan Jatoi, Additional Secretary (Implementation) M. Iqbal Dewan and other senior officials were also present..
The IGP Sindh briefed the visitors about police services and said that Sindh has three regions - Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur, headed by three Senior officers of AIG cadre. He informed that District Public Safety Commissions are working in all the districts of Sindh. The law and order situation is improving rapidly.
ACS Local Governemnt told the course participants that under devolution plan, City Government in Karachi and district governments in other districts of Sindh are properly functioning, while Sindh Local Government Commission and Sindh Finance Commissions, headed by Ministers of Local Government and Finance respectively, are also functional. On a special invitation, Mr Wong Chue, an expert on Thar Coal Field, briefed about the development of coal mines. -APP
