Published February 18, 2005

KARACHI, Feb 17: A Mehfil-i-Musalma, to recall the great martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his noble companions, was held at the Arts Council of Pakistan on Wednesday.

The poets read out their verses packed with emotion, and soaked in tears and reverence to the memory of the great Imam, the maternal grandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) himself.

The poets described in their 'salams' as to how Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), his family members and valiant companions were kept without water for ten days, and were brutally murdered by the forces of Ibne-Zayad at Karbla at the instance of Yazeed, the 'caliph' imposed on the Ummah, unjustifiably.

Among the poets who presented their soulful salams included Majid Khalil, recently awarded by the government for his 'naats', Prof Saher Ansari, Sadiq Mirza Madhosh, Ehsan Kakorvi, Sajjad Sukhan, Abrar Abid, Javed Manzeri, Abbas Haider Zaidi, Ms Nasim Nazish, Qamer Jamali Amrohvi and Kauser Naqvi. While Qamer Jamali was co-ordinator of the programme. Mr Naqvi did the compèring.

Ms Shahnaz Noor, a renowned poet, thanked the guests and the poets for their presence. However, the number of audience was poor may be because of an inclement weather.
