KARACHI, Feb 17: The Sindh education department is considering reshuffling subjects in the scheme of secondary schools certificate examinations from next year, said sources in the department.

A proposal from the Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) came under discussion at a meeting of the executive district officers (EDOs) of education of the province on Thursday. Education Secretary Hashim Leghari presided over the meeting attended, among others, by Additional secretary of Education Mahboob Ali Shaikh.

A source privy to the meeting said that in principle the meeting approved the proposal of making some changes in the teaching and examination of different subjects of Class IX and X examination conducted by the educational boards in the province to bring the scheme in line with what was in practice in other provinces.

The IBCC had urged the Sindh education department to adopt its resolution pertaining to SSC scheme of studies and ensure its implementation in all boards. Under the scheme, major subjects of science and general groups, taught either in Class IX or X, would be split into two and their examinations would be held in both years.

For instance, the subjects of Biology or Computer Science and Chemistry taught in Class IX would be taught and examined under the new scheme in Class X also. General Science and Mathematics applicable of Class IX general group would now be taught in Class X as well.

Similarly the subjects of Physics and Mathematics taught to students of science group in Class X at present would be taught in Class IX also. The proposed changes would also prompt reshuffling of Pakistan Studies, Ethics, Islamiat and Social Science subjects.

However, the recommendations of the EDOs meeting would finally be placed before the steering committee of the Sindh education department, wherein the chairmen of educational boards would also give inputs before a final decision for the implementation of the revised scheme of studies, said the source.
