RAWALPINDI, Feb 16: Police and army held a flag march on different roads of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Wednesday. In Rawalpindi, more than 125 police vehicles participated in the 'show of force' which was led by District Police Officer Syed Moravat Ali Shah.

All SPs, DSPs and SHOs of Rawalpindi police participated in the flag march that continued for about two hours. The march started from Kutchery Chowk and after passing through Murree Road, Faizabad and Westridge, culminated at the starting point.

Similarly, in Islamabad, police and army personnel staged a joint flag march. The police contingent was led by SSP Liaquat Ali Khan which passed through various routes of the federal capital. Security has been beefed up in Rawalpindi and Islamabad during Muharram.

Meanwhile, the capital city and rural areas have been divided into three circles to ensure peace and maintain high security alert during Muharram congregations and processions.

Security in each circle would be supervised by a superintendent of police who would be responsible to provide security cover to all congregations, a police spokesman said here Wednesday.

Superintendent of Police Ehsan Sadiq has been made in-charge of the Saddar circle, SP Sultan Azam Taimoori of city circle and SP Mehboob Aslam of rural circle, he added. "As many as 4,000 security personnel would be deputed in and around the capital to maintain law and order," he added.
