PCSIR assesses damage to environment


LAHORE, Feb 15: Scientists of the Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research are conducting studies on a regular basis to determine the extent of environmental damage at various sites of some cities , and suggesting remedial measures.

PCSIR chairman Dr Anwarul Haq said on Tuesday the council had carried out a study on air and noise pollution in Karachi for Nespak in connection with consultancy services for the transport planning and traffic management in the Defence Housing Society. A report had been prepared on the basis of the study, he added.

He said Environmental Impact Assessment studies were also conducted for the private sector for the flow of gases released by a stack of two boilers and four generators. Besides, he said, the measurement of light intensity was also carried out in different sections of the project while 31 samples of water and waste water were also annualized according to the WHO guidelines for various public and private sector organizations. -APP
