PESHAWAR, Feb 15: The political administration of North and South Waziristan have utilised Rs 476.372 million during the first half of the 2004-2005 financial year on various schemes in both the agencies
under the Annual Development Programme, officials said here on Tuesday.
A meeting, which was held with the NWFP Governor Iftikhar Hussain Shah in the chair at Governor's House, reviewed the pace of work on various development schemes initiated during the current financial year, an official handout issued here on Tuesday said.
The governor, the administrative head of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), was informed about the overall development in both the agencies. Political Agent of North Waziristan Agency Dr Fakhr-i-Alam said that the total volume of ADP for the current budget was Rs 515.907 million and out of this amount Rs 275.294 had been utilised by December 2004.
He said that out of a total of 97 schemes, work on 95 schemes were going on and two new schemes would be soon initiated, whereas 15 schemes in education, health, communication and irrigation sectors would be completed soon. These schemes include construction of Mir Kalam and Mersi Khel small dams in North Waziristan.
Under the regional development schems, a package worth Rs 99.980 million for Madda Khel area has been approved with Rs 63.561 million as progressive expenditure, The PA North Waziristan said.
The project covering communication, education, health, livestock and drinking water supply and irrigation sectors would be completed by June 2006. Under this project the amount released for the current year had been utilised.
Similarly, under the Shawal development package, Rs 11.912 million had been shown as progressive expenditure against Rs 60 million as total cost of the project which would be completed by June 2006, Mr Fakhr-i-Alam said.
The development so far made with Rs 335.203 million under South FATA development project was also reviewed. The Political Administrator of South Waziristan Asmatullah Gandapur also briefed the meeting about the progress made during the same period in his agency and said that a total of Rs 459.176 million were being spent on the development of South Waziristan during the current financial year.
Out of the total amount, Rs 201.078 million had been utilised during the first half of the current financial year. A total of 117 development schemes were being implemented including 97 ongoing and 17 new projects.
He also said that under the special development packages for Shawal and Santoi Mantoi areas of the Agency as well as under the governor's special package had been initiated.
The progress so far made on some major projects under the ADP include sports stadium at Wana, Govt Girls College Wana, three women hostels, FATA highway, three small dams, a number of drinking water supply schemes and the proposed new agency headquarter complex, the PA South Waziristan said.
