HYDERABAD: Blast accused escape from custody

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, Feb 15: Two activists of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz, allegedly involved in cases of bomb blasts, have escaped from the Hala police station.

Police said Fayaz Janwari and Sami Kalhoro were being interrogated by Dadu and Hyderabad police for their involvement in blasts in different parts of Sindh including an explosion in the Hyderabad by-pass.

They were in custody of investigation officer Ghulam Nabi Panhwar and SI Zulfikar Arain along with three police constables when they fled from the police station. It could not be ascertained how they escaped but it was learnt that two of the police constables were not present at the police station and the accused hit the third police constable with a brick and escaped on Sunday night.

The JSMM sources said the activists were detained in November last year and since then they were held incommunicado. The party had held press conference and protest demonstrations to seek release of the two activists.

A constitutional petition was also filed by a brother of Sami Kalhoro in the Sindh High Court, seeking his recovery. The petition is fixed for hearing on Thursday and the SP investigation and other policemen had been put on notice. The petitioner claimed his brother was detained on Nov 30 in Jamshoro.
