KARACHI, Feb 15: The administrative departments of the Sindh government have been directed to complete preparatory arrangements regarding recruitment against available vacancies.

The Sindh cabinet has already approved lifting of ban on appointments subject to approval of policy by the chief minister and issued by the services, general administration and coordination department. Formal orders in this regard are likely to be issued soon.

Furthermore, the secretary general (administration), regulation wing, has floated a summary to the governor/chief minister, for a change in the Sindh Public Service Commission (Functions) Rules 1990, recommending withdrawal of posts from BS-2 to 15 from its purview. The regulation wing would notify the same as soon as approval from the competent authority was obtained.

Meanwhile, the cabinet committee, formed by the chief minister, Sindh on Feb 12 also took some decisions. Accordingly, there shall be a written test followed by interviews for posts BPS-5 and above, whereas for posts BPS-1 to 4, only interviews would be conducted; there was a need to split the existing vacancies according to basic pay scale, district, region and province; departments should constitute selection committees at district-, regional- and provincial-levels; and that advertisements should indicate categories of the posts on district, regional and provincial basis.

Also decided in the said meeting, the upper age limit for those crossing the initial age limit had been relaxed for 10 years keeping in view the fact that there had a been a ban on employment for more than 10 years; rules, quotas etc on initial appointments would be strictly adhered to; a committee headed by the chief minister and comprising ministers of Mines and Minerals, Industries and Labour, Irrigation and Power, Information Technology and the chief secretary will oversee and monitor the whole process of recruitment; and the ministers may seek clarification from the monitoring committee in case of any doubt.

While, as per the decision of the Feb 12 cabinet committee meeting, the secretary general (A), regulation wing, had already been directed to process a summary for amendment in Rule 4(i) of the Sindh Civil Servants (APT) Rules, 1974, pertaining to the classification of appointing authorities. - APP
