KARACHI, Feb 14: A high-level committee has been constituted to probe the breach in Shadi Kore dam near Pasni.
This was stated by M. Ashraf Iqbal, a member of Balochistan Chief Minister's Advisory Council and Central Councillor of Pakistan Muslim League.
He said that the dam, built some three years ago, got burst before starting supply to any locality.
"Certainly, it smells something wrong on the construction side," he said. The committee would be headed by Balochistan CM, Jam Muhammad Yousaf. said drinking water, food, medicines, tents, and blankets were badly required for flood-striken people of Mekran belt-Pasni and Gwadar etc.
He, however, expressed satisfaction over the relief work carried out mainly by personnel of three forces and para-military and hoped that the situation would come under control shortly.
He said that 50 tankers were supplying drinking water to stranded inhabitants of Pasni. One launch had brought medicine to Pasni from Karachi besides armed forces' copters are shuttling for supply of relief goods.
He said the army officers and district administration's senior officers were supervising the distribution of the relief goods to ensure that these reach the deserving people.
"No political people were included in the distribution process to make this transparent," he said. The PML leader said the party had set up camps at various areas of the province, including Pasni, Gwadar and Jivani, to collect donations in kind and cash.
He acknowledged that PML Central President, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had already provided logistic support in this regard.
He appealed to philanthropists and social organizations and the general public to contribute generously to help the flood and rain affected people of Balochistan. -APP
