KARACHI: Emergency cells set up for Muharram


KARACHI, Feb 14: The Sindh Home Department has set up Emergency Muharram Cells throughout the province to cope with any exigency during the holy month.

A central monitoring control room has been established in the office of Provincial Police Officer to obtain hourly reports about the Majalis and processions throughout the province.

The central control room, connected with all police controls in the province, will be working round-the-clock. Following are the telephone numbers of the emergency cells set up in Karachi.

Similar emergency cells have been set up in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Nawabshah, Shikharpur, Jacobabad and Kashmor. In addition to the Emergency Muharram Cells, all Madadgar centres will be functioning round-the-clock in Karachi.

STICKERS: The central police office has announced that it will be mandatory for the owner of vehicles to get stickers to be displayed on windscreens of their vehicles in order to participate in processions to be taken out from Nishter Park to Hussanian Iranian Imambarghah Kharadar on 8th, 9th and 10th of Muharram.

The stickers can be obtained from the office of DIG Traffic (Security Branch) Central Police Office, I.I. Chundrigar Road. These stickers will be issued till Friday.

It should be noted that no stickers would be issued to any vehicle except ambulance, scout, social welfare organizations, Sabils, Nazar and Niaz distributing vehicles or any other emergency vehicle.

DCOs visit: District Coordination Officer Fazlur Rehman visited Imambargahs and routes of Muharram procession in different parts of the city on Sunday evening. During the visit, he issued directive for immediate repair of streetlights and better lighting arrangements in the areas of Nishtar Park and Shah-i-Khurasan besides improved sanitary conditions.

Instructions were also issued for cleanliness and sewerage disposal around Imambargah Ali Raza in Lines Area and Imambargah Hussaini in Jutland Lines. He discussed traffic management plan with DIG Traffic on the spot.

DCO Fazlur Rehman also visited Jamshed Quarters, Marton Road, Dastgir, Azizabad, Rashid Minhas Road, Ancholi and Rizvia Society. He directed that the road in front of Abu Turab Imambargah Azizabad should be immediately repaired while streetlights must be arranged in Rizvia Society. He inspected the under construction road from Lasbella to Rizvia Society and said it should be opened during the first 10 days of Muharram. -PPI/APP
