PESHAWAR: Man shot dead over property dispute

By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, Feb 14: A man was killed over an old property dispute in Regi area on Sunday. Police were searching for the main accused after arresting two people, sources said.

The dispute between the Orakzai family and Regi villagers has claimed over a dozen lives in two decades. Police officials said Sultanat, a resident of Regi, died when some people opened fire on him allegedly from the house of lawyer Yousuf Riaz in Kakat Qala. The victim belonged to a tribal militia.

After the murder, more than 100 armed residents of Regi gathered in front of the house and tried to break open its gate. Police reached the spot and held negotiation with Regi elders and local Nazim, Karamat.

Police arrested two men, Bacha and Gulab, of Charsadda, and seized two Kalashnikovs, a riffle, a machinegun and a pistol from the house. The owner of the house was not present. A murder case has been registered against the three and police are looking for the lawyer.

SHOPS GUTTED: At least four shops were gutted in Shaheen Bazaar cloth market apparently due to short circuit on Sunday. The owner of a shop, Taza Gul, told police that the fire began in his shop at around 3pm and soon engulfed three adjacent shops and their stores.
