LAHORE: Wapda workers' demo against privatization

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Feb 14: Wapda workers took out a procession here on Monday to protest against the privatization of the power distribution companies and other public utility organizations and delay in announcement of the pay and allowances committee report.

The procession was taken out from Bakhtiar Labour Hall on Nisbet Road. Carrying banners and placards, workers raised slogans against privatization and inflation and marched to the Lakshmi Chowk where they staged a demonstration.

Addressing the workers, Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union secretary-general Khurshid Ahmed and other leaders said the government should desist from privatizing the public utility organizations as it would result in increase in costs of their services.

They said that there was no justification for delay in revising the pay and allowances of government employees after a substantial increase in emoluments of the ministers. They also stressed the need for resolving the differences with the Balochs through negotiations.
