KARACHI, Feb 13: The KESC Board of Directors, in response to the common demand of consumers who have got their power supply discontinued due to non-payment and who are facing difficulty in clearing their outstanding dues
, has extended the deadline of relief package up to March 31.
A number of such consumers had been demanding extension in the date which had expired on December 31 last year, according to a KESC release on Sunday.
Under the package the inactive consumers (who are no more consuming electricity) have been offered a cut in amount of arrears (excluding government taxes like GST, income tax, electricity duty, etc.) as per the following percentage on lump sum payment: Dues outstanding for more than 5 years = 70 per cent; more than three years = 50 per cent; from one to three years = 30 per cent; and from 6 months to one year = 20 per cent.
The active consumers (who continue to use electricity) have been offered a 25 per cent cut on lump sum payment of their dues (excluding government taxes like GST, income tax, electricity duty, etc.) outstanding against them for more than one year.
The offer is valid for those consumers who have put up their cases of disputed dues with courts provided they withdraw their cases and clear their dues latest by March 31. The relief is not applicable to government connections, the KESC release concluded. -PPI
