GUJRANWALA: Farmers for cut in power, diesel rates

GUJRANWALA, Feb 13: A kissan convention has urged the government to solve farmers' problems at the union council level and reduce electricity tariff and prices of diesel, seeds and pesticides to enhance the production.

The convention held in Naushera Virkan on Sunday was presided over by tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Tariq Raza Gujjar and participated by landlords and farmers of the area.

Speaking at the occasion, Kala Shah Kaku paddy research institute director Chaudhry Muhammad Mushtaq said farmers and landlords were playing an important role to attain food sufficiency and the use of modern techniques in agriculture had become indispensable to increase production.

District officer (agriculture) Chaudhry Shaukat Ali, research officer Dr.Israr Khan and plant protection assistant-director Chaudhry Akram Yousaf claimed that a comprehensive drive against dealers of spurious agricultural medicines had been launched while dozens had been arrested in this regard.
