Recruitment ban being lifted, says governor

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, Feb 11: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that the ban on employment is being lifted and advertisements will be published in newspapers from next week.

The governor said the government was committed to providing maximum job opportunities to people that was why industries were being set up in Sindh. Addressing a gathering after inaugurating street lights installed by the TMA of Latifabad on Thursday, he said the recent Expo 2005 exhibition was part of the government strategy to explore new avenues for employment.

He said the government was providing facilities to industrialists in Nooriabad as a result a number of industries had increased in hundreds. He said there was a delay in execution of the Hyderabad development package but it was largely due to the fact that the government was planning transparent execution of the project.

He said development activities would begin after the appointment of a consultant and a project director. Dr Ibad listed water supply, sewerage and drainage issues as the main problems of the city, saying they would be given priority.

He said though some improvement had been witnessed in the city as compared to the past but there was a dire need of accelerating pace of development works. He said foreign investment in Sindh was a major indicator of peaceful conditions in the province.

The Sindh governor pointed out that the government was strengthening the local government system for which the next phase of elections would begin soon all over the country.

He appealed to the people to elect those people who were sincere and honest for the stability of system that would ultimately lead to solution of their problems.

Referring to some points raised by Taluka Nazim Jabbar Khan, Dr Ibad said 86 lady teachers would be reinstated in services next week and remaining problems would be resolved after taking feedback from officials concerned.

MPA Naeem Ishtiaq held the district government responsible for collapsed civic infrastructure of the city. The MPA said the water supply and sewerage system had become major problems for residents.

He demanded that the City College should be upgraded as a university and the HDA should be devolved at the taluka level. District Naib Nazim Nawab Rashid Ali Khan expressed dissatisfaction over performance of the district government.

He demanded that an inquiry be conducted into utilization of funds by the district government in the name of development schemes. He said sub-standard material had been used in development works and added that officials who had executed these works be punished.

He said union councils' nazims had not been taken into confidence before the approval of development works and their execution. He said even schemes of the annual development programme had not been discussed with union councils representatives and demanded that the Sindh government should devise a proper strategy for ensuring fair and transparent implementation of the HDP.

He said the Sindh governor had been misguided by the district administration that all schemes were got approved from UC nazims in the district council. Latifabad Taluka Nazim Jabbar Khan said Rs20 million share of the taluka from total property tax had been spent by the TMA City for clearance of outstanding dues.

About injudicious distribution of sanitary workers, he said the TMA had 1,100 sanitary workers against 480 of the TMA Latifabad and 180 of the TMA Qasimabad. He said the sanitary staff should be bifurcated as per strength of UCs in each TMA.

Mr Khan demanded restoration of subsidy to the HDA by the Sindh government, release of funds under the governor's package, functioning of the cattle colony, establishment of two women parks and provision of seven police mobiles in the taluka. The Sindh governor also visited the zonal office of the MQM at Bhai Khan ki Chari.
