HYDERABAD, Feb 10: Leaders of component parties of the Anti-Greater Thal Canal and Kalabagh Dam Action Committee have reiterated their opposition to controversial water projects and said they are a threat to the existence of Sindh and its people.

Protests were held on the call of the action committee at district headquarters of Sindh on Wednesday.

In Hyderabad, a hunger strike was observed outside the press club. Speaking on the occasion, People's Party Parliamentarians MPA Makhdoom Jamiluzzaman said announcement of construction of the Kalabagh dam by President Gen Pervez Musharraf would be a death warrant for Sindh and added that the rulers must be aware of the fact that people of Sindh would not accept the dam or any other 'anti-Sindh project'.

Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palejo criticized Gen Musharraf for his insistence on construction of the water projects.

Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi said people of Sindh would continue their struggle till restitution of their rights.

Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Makhdoom Shahnawaz vowed to fight for rights of Sindh.

Sindh Jamaat-i-Islami Amir Dr Mumtaz Memon, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) leader Taj Mohammad Nahyoon and others also spoke on the occasion.

THATTA: Sindh PPP chief and action committee convener Syed Qaim Ali Shah said the rulers should consider people's protest and shelve the water projects.

PPP MPAs Sassui Palijo and Humera Alwani others said their party had apprised various international forums of what they called the step-motherly attitude of the rulers with the smaller provinces.

DADU: People under the banner of the action committee took out a protest procession in the town and after marching through different roads held a demonstration outside press club.

NAWABSHAH: Activists of the PPP, PML-N and the STPP took out a protest procession from the PPP's office here to the press club.

SANGHAR: People held a demonstration outside the press club here.

Protest rallies were also held in Khairpur, Shikarpur and Jacobabad.
