LARKANA: Rally staged against Kalabagh, Thal projects

By Our Correspondent

LARKANA, Feb 9: A protest rally was staged on the call of the Anti-Greater Thal Canal Action Committee against the water projects here on Wednesday.

Component parties of the action committee jointly took out a procession. The protesters also staged a sit-in at the gate of the Jinnahbagh.

Larkana People's Party Parliamentarians president Ayaz Soomro, Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party leader Ahmad Nawaz Brohi and others led the procession which after marching through main roads of the city converged outside the press club.

Speaking on the occasion, leaders of different political parties accused the government of depriving the smaller provinces of their rights by continuing with the plan to construct the disputed water projects. They reminded that three provincial assemblies had adopted resolutions against the projects.

Later, around 200 protestors observed a token hunger strike outside the district council hall and the press club.

Our Shikarpur Correspondent adds: On the call of the action committee, activists of various political parties observed a token hunger strike at the Mirani Eidgah in front of the press club to protest against the construction of the Greater Thal canal and Kalabagh dam.

Activists of the People's Party Parliamentarians, Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), Awami Tehrik, and the Sindh National Front, after observing the strike, took out a procession and, marching through the Station Road, reached the Lakhi Gate Tower Chowk, where they held a demonstration.
