Cash awards for junior players

PESHAWAR, Feb 8: The NWFP Squash Association honoured British Open and Asian Juniors winners with cash prizes at a simple but impressive ceremony at Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday.

A total of 15 boys and two girls represented Pakistan at the two events. They include 12 and a half year old Farhan Zaman, a debutant hailing from NWFP, who recorded victory in the under-13 category defeating third seeded Fawad Khalifa of Egypt 9-0, 9-0, 9-2 in just 17 minutes.

The other upcoming player Bilal Zaman who was beaten in the final of British Open juniors received standing aviation from the enthusiasts.

The victorious members of the Asian championship team event Aamir Atlas, Bilal Zaman and Alamzaib also received awards and cash prizes. Aqib Hanif, the fourth member of the team is from Punjab.

Apart from the team title, young Aamir Atlas grabbed the title of Asian champion.

Farhan Zaman under-13 British Open Juniors winner was awarded a cash prize of Rs20,000 and trophy. Bilal Zaman was awarded Rs15,000 and trophy while Asian champion Aamir Atlas and other team members were awarded Rs20,000 and trophies.-APP
