KARACHI, Feb 7: The trend of pitching tents (Shamianas) on busy roads and major streets for marriage and other functions and use of fireworks on such occasions has become a source of nuisance for the respective localities , besides creating hindrance for the flow of vehicular traffic.

Such a trend has increased manifolds following the imposition of ban on serving food at wedding ceremonies as most of the people now prefer to pitch tents in front of their houses for marriage and other related ceremonies.

Although the Sindh Home Minister, Rauf Siddiqui, has recently issued directives to police to take action against all those who indulge in fireworks as well as against the owners of marriage halls, not a single day passes when the citizens hear deafening noise of fireworks taking place at marriage lawns and even at the functions privately arranged on roads and streets.

The menace of fireworks together with aerial firing creates panic among the residents of the localities where such anti-social activities are carried out.

Surprisingly, the use of fireworks was continuing unabated in various parts of the city and yet the police seem least interested in bringing a halt to the growing menace.

Concerned citizens are of the view that Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui should ensure that his directives are implemented in letter and spirit.
