Constable killed in BD clashes

By Our Correspondent

DHAKA, Feb 6: A police constable was killed in Sherpur and scores of people were injured in violence across the country during a 36-hour countrywide strike that ended Sunday evening.

Police arrested more than 100 on Sunday during the strike, called by the Awami League and its allies to protest the January 27 grenade attack on an Awami League rally in Habiganj that killed a lawmaker and four others.

The Awami League claimed that police had picked up about 200 opposition activists in two days.

Sporadic clashes were witnessed at various places in Dhaka as the law enforcers did not allow opposition activists to gather on the streets.
