KARACHI: Women now aware of their rights - minister

KARACHI, Feb 4: The contemporary woman is more aware of her rights than she was in the past as she is now no more a silent spectator towards the treatment meted out to her.

This was observed by Sindh Minister for Women Development Dr Saeeda Malik while addressing a seminar here on Friday.

She said that Pakistan was also following the agenda of Beijing conference on women development. The recommendations of the conference would be presented at the forthcoming UN conference next month, she said, adding that ministers for women development from all four provinces would participate in the conference.

"Woman in Pakistan, particularly of rural areas of Sindh, is facing a lot of problems and we should work together to resolve the same," she stressed, and urged the relevant NGOs to work in collaboration with the government for the purpose.

Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Information Secretary Mehtab Akbar Rashdi urged the womenfolk should acquire education which, she said, would help them achieve their due rights. The seminar was attended by representatives of various NGOs. -PPI
