LARAKANA: Strike in Qambar, protesters demand arrest of killers

LARKANA, Feb 4: On a call of the Citizens' Action Committee, a complete strike was observed in Qambar on Friday on the occasion of the Chehlum of four protesters killed in police firing in the town on December 24.

A large number of people took out a protest procession, demanded arrest of the policemen responsible for killing the four men during a protest rally staged on the issue of the new district carved out of Larkana.

Led by Bhaoo Dur Mohammad Buriro, the secretary of the action committee, and joined by the relatives of the victims, a procession emerged from the grain market and, after marching on main roads, ended at Bakery Chowk, where the participants staged a sit-in.

The teachers and students joined the sit-in after boycotting classes in schools. Carrying banners and placards, the protesters raised slogans against the Sindh government.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Buriro, Manzoor Memon, Hafeez Hakro, Yunus Soomro and others criticized a delay in finalizing reports of investigations into the incident conducted by different committees. Additional police force was called from Larkana but they remained confined to the Qambar police station.

LB POLLS: District committee of the People's Party Parliamentarians has decided to field candidates in the ensuing local bodies' election in the district up to union council and councillor level.

The decision was made at a PPP meeting, presided over by its district president MPA Ayaz Soomro and attended by its MNAs and MPAs hailing from the district and the dismissed nazim and nazib nazim of the district among others.

They meeting invited applications from the aspirants and decided to hold corner meetings as a part of its people's contact campaign. It was decided that the PPP workers would be fielded in the coming polls and the lists of their names finalized after holding sub-divisional meetings.

SSC EXAMS: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Larkana, has extended the date for submission of examination forms of Secondary School Certificate I and II by students through their schools till February 24.

According to a BISE announcement, the candidates can submit the forms with the payment of Rs400 late fee. The forms will also be accepted in the BISE office till February 26.
