Cash awards for Junior team players

LAHORE, Feb 3: Players from Punjab, who as members of the Pakistan squash teams, won honours in the British Open Junior and the 12th Asian Junior championships, were honoured with cash prizes on Thursday.

The Punjab Squash Association (PSA) and the sponsors Faysal Bank gave away cash prizes to four players, including a girl.

Basit Ashfaq and Shoaib Hasan, who earned a gold medal each in Under-19 and Under-15 events of the British Junior Open, held at Sheffield (England) from Jan 2 to 6, received Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 from the PSA, respectively. The bank also gave them Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively.

Aqib Hanif, who was a member of the team which won a gold medal in the team championship of the 12th Asian Junior championship held at Chennai, India also received Rs 10,000 from the PSA while Miss Zoya Khalid, the runners-up of the classic plate event of the same contest, pocketed Rs 5,000. Basit Ashfaq and Shoaib Hasan also received a mobile phone each.
