KARACHI, Feb 3: The Japan Cultural Centre and the consulate-general of Japan in Karachi organized a three-day "Teacher's Workshop on Japan" for the city's secondary school teachers at a local hotel.
As many as 30 teachers from the leading schools of the city participated in the interactive and informative event, which aimed at providing the teachers with first-hand knowledge about Japan, and its relations with Pakistan.
This event also helped in further strengthening of the existing friendly ties between the peoples of both countries. At the closing ceremony of the workshop, Hitoshi Neki, the acting Consul General of Japan, awarded certificates to the participating teachers.
Addressing the teachers on the occasion, Mr Neki said: "Being teachers of secondary schools, you are the principal source of information for the children about the outside world."
The workshop had imparted necessary knowledge to the teachers to answer children's queries about Japan, and to tell them about the significance of friendship between the two countries, he added.
The participants had a chance to visit the Karachi Japanese School, where they observed the Japanese education system, including the teaching methodology in vogue there.
Face-to-face discussion with the Japanese teachers were conducted on various education related issues in both the countries. Moreover, three Japanese students from Urdu department of Karachi University gave a presentation on the "Educational System of Japan and University Life."
A lecture by Dr Abdul Wahab, president of the Mohammad Ali Jinnah University was also delivered on "Japanese Concept of Business Administration." Former Pakistan ambassador to Japan spoke on "Japan's Role in Peace Building in the world in the 21st Century". Ikebana show by Prof Asifa Ataka was also held in which everyone learned about Japanese floral art. -APP
