JACOBABAD: Jirga resolves dispute

JACOBABAD, Feb 3: A jirga held in Kandhkot here on Thursday resolved an 18-year-old dispute between groups of Chachar and Sabzoi tribes. The dispute, caused by a theft incident in 1987, claimed 31 lives from both sides.

The jirga imposed a fine of Rs5.55 million on Sabzoi tribesmen and Rs4.925 million on Chachar tribesmen. After adjustment of the fine amount, the Sabzois will pay Rs625,000 to the Chachars in three instalments.

The jirga was headed by Sardar Sundar Khan Sundrani. Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani and Sardar Ahmad Ali Pitafi were advisers to Chachar tribesmen and former senator Shahnawaz Junejo and Pir Mian Mithu represented Sabzoi tribesmen.

Sardar Muqeem Khan Khoso, Sardar Haji Khan Chachar, Mir Manzoor Khan Panhwar, Sardar Taigho Khan Teghani, Dr Sohrab Sarki, Sardar Saleem Jan Mazari, Sardar Hyder Ali Jakhrani, Sardar Ganj Bux Khan Buriro and other tribal chiefs attended the jirga held at the Kandhkot Degree College ground.

Hundreds of people from both sides also attended the jirga. Both the parties accepted the decision and sweets were distributed among people. DPO Din Mohammad Baloch along with a heavy contingent of police was also present.
