DADU: Hospital short of doctors

Published February 4, 2005

DADU, Feb 3: The Dadu Civil Hospital is short of specialist doctors of skin, heart, child, gynaecology, cardiology and physiotherapy.

A dialysis centre established at the hospital at a cost of Rs2.8 million in April 2004 is lying closed because staff has not been posted and machinery has not been provided to the centre.

Civil surgeon Dr Javed Ahmad Dawach told this correspondent that the Dadu district government had allocated Rs12 million to purchase machinery for the dialysis centre. He said he had provided a list of required equipment to the district government.

He demanded that the government should allocate a budget for the centre to make it operational. He said a urologist had been posted and other staff would be soon be appointed at the centre.

Dr Dawach said the post of skin specialist was lying vacant for one year. He said 7,487 cases of skin disease had been reported in the district. He said the hospital also needed a separate maternity ward.

He regretted that the gynaecologist was not performing his duty for 18 months but authorities concerned had taken no notice. Dr Mehrunnisa of the gynae ward said 30 beds were needed in the ward.
