MMA to celebrate Kashmir Week

KARACHI, Jan 31: Naib Amir Jamat-i-Islami Senator Prof Ghafoor Ahmed has warned the government to refrain from abandoning its principled stance on Kashmir saying that President Musharraf has no right to announce withdrawal from United Nation's resolutions.

"Without resolving Kashmir issue, peace cannot be restored in South Asia," he told a press conference along with parents and relatives of martyred Kashmiris at Idara Noor-i-Haq on Monday.

He said that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal had decided to celebrate Kashmir Solidarity Week from Feb 1 to condemn Indian occupation while Kashmir Solidarity Day would be celebrated with traditional zeal and fervour on Feb 5. Protest demonstrations, rallies and gatherings would be held on the Kashmir Day.

Criticizing the government for its "criminal negligence on Baglihar Dam issue", he said that India continued its controversial projects in Kashmir. He said that taking the issue to World Bank would prove useless, as it had no power to implement its decisions.

He demanded that Indian government should withdraw its forces from occupied Kashmir and let the Kashmiris decide about their future as no power in the world could suppress those who were determined to end others control on their land. Among others, JI Karachi chief Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui, MPA Nasarullah Shajee and Sarfraz Ahmed were also present on the occasion. -PPI
