ISLAMABAD, Jan 30: Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas has finalized the Kashmir Solidarity Day programmes to extend moral, diplomatic and political support to Kashmiri people.
The interior ministry has already announced February 5 as holiday. A five-minute silence will be observed to pay homage to Kashmiri martyrs at 10am on the day. The foreign ministry has also directed Pakistan missions abroad to observe five-minute silence according to their local time.
On that day, the president, prime minister and minister for Kashmir affairs and Northern Areas will issue special messages. At 4pm, a Kashmir convention will be held at Jinnah Convention Centre, Islamabad, under the auspices of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Council Secretariat.
Lok Virsa will arrange stalls of Kashmiri food and exhibit photographs. Kashmiri songs and cultural show will also be arranged on the occasion. An exhibition under the auspices of the Cabinet Division will be held where selected UN resolutions on Kashmir, in original, will be displayed.
Pakistan National Council of the Arts will arrange dramas and puppet show at Liaquat Memorial Hall while an art bazaar will be held at National Art Gallery. Local painters and all Pakistan Private School Association will participate in a competition of paintings.
Parliament's Kashmir Committee will arrange a walk in Islamabad with the cooperation of CDA and capital administration which will be led by the committee chairman, Hamid Nasir Chattha.
State-run TV and radio as well as private TV channels will telecast and broadcast special programmes while newspapers will bring out supplements. Human chains will be formed on bridges that connect Pakistan with Azad Kashmir. Ministers from the Punjab and NWFP governments will also be present.
Food packets will be distributed at the refugee camps in AJK while declamation contests will be held at schools and colleges throughout the country. Walks will also be held at provincial and district level which will be led by governors, chief ministers and district nazims.
