MMA to contest local bodies polls

By Our Correspondent

SHEIKHUPURA, Jan 30: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal will participate in the forthcoming local bodies elections. This was stated by MMA deputy secretary-general and MNA Liaquat Baloch while addressing a gathering of Jamaat-i-Islami activists here on Sunday.

He stressed the need to resolve all the burning issues like the Sui and Balochistan through dialogues. The government should hold talks with all the estranged politicians so that the controversial matters could be solved in a democratic manner.

Mr Baloch said that all the political parties should unite to launch an anti-Musharraf movement, forcing him to restore the real democracy in the country. He said the MMA would continue its struggle against President Pervez Musharraf till his ouster.

For this purpose, he said the MMA would stage sits-in and processions besides 'jail bharo movement' throughout the country. Punjab JI secretary-general Syed Waqas Anjum Jaffery, MMA district president Mian Muhammad Ramzan and secretary Rana Tofa Dastagir Ahmad also spoke on the occasion.

SHOT DEAD: An excise inspector was shot dead by his rivals near Pull Piplan on Bucheki-Syedwala Road, some 75kms from here on Sunday. Police said that Muhammad Sharif was going to his village by his motorcycle when Amanat, Yar Muhammad and their two accomplices opened fire on him. He died on the spot. Syed wala police have registered a case and are investigating.
