Opposition 'united' on uniform issue

LAHORE, Jan 30: MMA deputy secretary-general Liaquat Baloch says the religious alliance will rid the country of the "unconstitutional" president and army dictator.

Speaking to a meeting of Lahore Jamaat-i-Islami arakeen (members with voting rights) here on Sunday, Mr Baloch, who is also provincial head of the Jamaat, said they wanted to solve all the issues through the parliament instead of at the whims of an individual.

He said all attempts of the government to divide the opposition parties would be foiled as the opposition was unanimous on the uniform issue. He alleged that the US wished to accomplish its secular agenda in the country through Gen Musharraf.

He regretted that Washington was supporting democracy elsewhere but was backing an army dictator in Pakistan. The meeting was also addressed by Lahore Jamaat chief and MNA Hafiz Salman Butt who vowed to organize the opposition's anti-Musharraf movement in every nook and corner of the city.
