SARGODHA: Banks refuse to accept Rs5, Rs10 currency notes

By Our Correspondent

SARGODHA, Jan 30: Almost all the commercial banks in Sargodha and Khushab have been refusing to accept currency notes of Rs5 and Rs10 denominations.

One Muzaffar Husain told this correspondent on Saturday that he used to deposit his daily income in Habib Bank's Khushab branch.

The bank manager refused to accept small denomination currency notes, he added. Similar is the position here and the people who used to deposit their daily income in small denomination currency notes are facing this problem.

When contacted, a manager of a commercial bank said on condition of anonymity the bank could not afford to spend time on counting small currency notes. The National Bank was also not doing any favour to them as a result of which most of the banks refused to accept small denomination notes.

Customers as well as bankers demanded that the State Bank Governor should direct all the commercial banks to accept currency notes of all denominations.
