Pakistan arrests 43 Indian fishermen

KARACHI, Jan 29: The authorities arrested 43 Indians on Saturday for illegally fishing in Pakistan's territorial waters, officials said.

"We have arrested 43 Indian fishermen and seized their seven boats for violating our maritime zone," Maritime Security Agency spokesman Khawar Hasan Khan said.

The fishermen had been handed over to the police, he told AFP.

Early this month Pakistan released 266 Indian fishermen who had been languishing in jails since last year for illegally fishing in Pakistani waters.

The decision was made as a 'goodwill gesture' to neighbouring India, Mr Khan said.
