LAHORE: Nazim for educating people on CCBs

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Jan 29: District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood has called upon the Citizen Community Boards committee members to educate people on the utility of the CCBs at the union council level.

Addressing a meeting of the CCB monitoring committee at the Jinnah Hall here on Saturday, the district Nazim said the government had launched the community boards scheme to ensure direct public participation in development of civic amenities. People could form the CCBs for execution of projects like construction of roads, execution of water supply and sewerage, building new educational institutions and dispensaries by contributing 20 per cent of the costs. The city district government, town municipal administration or the union council would provide the remaining 80 per cent funds after approval of the project.

He said the committee was required to monitor the progress of works being executed by the CCBs in different parts of the city and submit inspection reports for release of funds. The CDG, TMA or UC would not release funds in case of discrepancies in the inspection reports of the committee and the progress reports of the CCBs. He said the boards were also required to submit a report after completion of their projects.

The meeting was attended by Executive District Officer (Community Development) Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas Gondal, EDO (Works) Chaudhry Muhammad Arif, EDO (Education) and Councillor Farah Deeba.
