CHITRAL: Release of wheat demanded

Published January 30, 2005

CHITRAL, Jan 29: MNA from Chitral Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali has demanded that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz release 15,000 ton of wheat to the rain-hit people of Chitral as per his promise with a delegation hailing from the district on Dec 2.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he said that due to rain and snowfall of last October, the cereal crops had been ruined and a famine was imminent in the valley as a result.

He reminded the prime minister of his promise he had made with the delegation that 15,000 ton of wheat would be distributed among the rain affectees in the district. That promise remained to be fulfilled, he said.

Maulana Chitrali said that due to continued heavy snowfall in the valley, the condition of the inhabitants was now more pathetic than before.
