MIRPURKHAS, Jan 28: Family members of Abu Bakar Panhwar, who was allegedly tortured to death in lock-up of Satellite Town police station on Jan 25 , called upon the president, the prime minister, the Sindh governor and the chief minister to take notice of police excesses in the wake of their protest against the custodial death.
In a joint statement issued here on Friday, Ali Mohammad Panhwar, the father of the deceased, uncle Ali Khan Panhwar, brother Abid Ali Panhwar and cousin Ali Akbar Panhwar criticized raids on houses of their relatives, implication of innocent people in cases.
They said their relatives had gone underground due to police highhandedness. They said they were being pressurized to withdraw from the case against police officials involved in the custodial death. They accused the police of spoiling the peaceful conditions and triggering ethnic tension in the city.
AUTOPSY REPORT: Initial findings of the autopsy of Abu Bakar Panhwar revealed on Thursday that the death had been caused by strangulation. The civil surgeon of the civil hospital told journalists that marks of violence were also visible on the body. He said marks of a sharp wire could also be seen around the deceased's neck.
Meanwhile, the People's Party Parliamentarians registered on Friday a non-cognizable report against eleven activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and All-Pakistan Mohajir Students Organization.
Those nominated under section 337 H, 427, 504 and 34 PPC include Naveed, Shakeel Kallan, Arshad Machi, Aqeel Kamali, Arif Sufi, Faheem, Tarique and others. The coordination secretary of the PPP Mirpurkhas district, Mehboob Pathan, submitted the report at the Town police station.
The situation in the city remained peaceful whereas police and rangers continued patrolling. Security personnel were deployed at different places and sensitive areas of the city.
PROTEST: Activists of the PPP took out a procession in Kot Ghulam Muhammad in protest against the arrests of SPSF office-bearers including Junaid Buland and firing on the house of the member of the National Assembly Syed Qurban Ali Shah.
They were carrying banners and placards against the Mirpurkhas police and arrest of the PPP workers. Speaking on the occasion, Aslam Dal and Shamsher Qaimkhani condemned police excesses and demanded that the party activists should be released.
ACTION: Farmers from Allah Bux Kaka village have accused police of taking no action against water robbers. Speaking at the press club on Thursday, Allah Warayo Kaka, Zulfikar Kaka, Hakim Kaka, Khuda Bux Baloch, Dadan Baloch and Abdul Sattar Lund said over 50 gunmen including Ali Gul Mari, Khairo Mari and Dino Mari damaged their watercourse-114/1AR on the Jamrao East Canal and deprived them of their share of water.
They alleged the gunmen had backing of the irrigation officials who had demanded a bribe from them to supply their share of water to them. They called upon the provincial police officer and the chief executive of the Jamrao division of the provincial irrigation department to take notice of the matter and ensure supply water to them from the outlet.
