By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, Jan 27: Two leaders of the Pukhtun Students Federation have been arrested on treason charges from the University of Peshawar.

Sources told Dawn on Thursday that PSF president Sardar Ahmad Khan Yousufzai and campus president Javed Khan Iqbal Yousufzai were arrested by the campus police on Wednesday.

According to the FIR, the student leaders have been charged under the 16 MPO, 153-B, 123-B and 124-A of the Pakistan Penal Code. The PSF had organized a rally on Jan 12 against high cost of education at the Student-Teacher Centre on the campus.

In the FIR Sardar Ahmad and Javed Khan are said to have been charged with creating a law and order situation. They have also been accused of instigating students against the state and setting the national flag on fire.

The PSF, in a statement issued here on Thursday, demanded immediate release of the student leaders. Provincial president of the PSF Saeed Alam Baba said that the organization had staged the demonstration to press their demand for reduction in the hostel fee.
