DADU, Jan 26: A large number of employees of the food department staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Wednesday to put pressure on the Sindh government to pay their salary of 36 months.

The protesters came from Dadu, Sehwan, Johi and Khairpur Nathan Shah talukas and were led by Rahmatullah Umrani and Raj Lund. They told newsmen that about 490 employees of the food department had been sent to surplus pool and denied salary for 36 months. They said that their families were starving and appealed to the provincial chief minister to ensure release of the salary.

ANNIVERSARY: The 77th birth anniversary of founder of the Pakistan People's Party Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was observed in the Community Hall in Mehar on Tuesday night. Hundreds of the PPP activists attended the programme where a cake of 77 pounds was cut.

Speaking on the occasion, PPP MNA Rafique Ahmed Jamali said that Sindh was facing a shortage of water and its agriculture was worst affected but the government was bent upon constructing the Kalabagh dam and Greater Thal canal.

He said that people were committing suicide due to unemployment but the government was not paying attention to solve the problem. Zafar Ali Leghari, Qazi Shafiq, Talat Mahesar and Qambar Ali Leghari said that the PPP was the party of poor people and it would continue to fight for the rights of masses.
