$1.64m ADB grant for reforms

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 25: As part of its commitment to support governance reform in Pakistan, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved three technical assistance (TA) grants totalling $1,640,000 that focus on public safety and access to justice, non-profit sector and devolution.

* A $950,000 TA grant from ADB's poverty reduction cooperation fund, financed by the United Kingdom, will improve access to justice and promote public safety reforms in four districts of Punjab.

* A $240,000 TA grant financed from ADB's multi-donor governance cooperation fund will support government efforts to promote non-profit organizations.

* A $450,000 TA grant will help strengthen and align government operations with devolution.

Good governance is one of ADB's three pillars - with social development and pro-poor sustainable economic growth - for reducing poverty in the Asia and Pacific region. Established in 1966, ADB is owned by 63 members - 45 from the region.
