HYDERABAD, Jan 25: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company has issued show-cause notice to 83 officials for their alleged involvement in running illegal connections of consumers whose power supply was permanently disconnected due to non-payment of outstanding dues.

Hesco sources said teams formed by the management conducted physical checking in Hyderabad-I, Hyderabad-II, Nawabshah, Sukkur and Larkana operation circles and found 645 permanently severed connections, having outstanding dues of Rs129.5 million, operating illegally.

The management took serious notice of the matter and issued show-cause notices to 13 executive engineers, 24 sub-divisional officers and 46 line superintendents.

Sources said there were 2,684 consumers up to June 30, 2004, whose power connections were disconnected because of non-payment of outstanding dues of Rs588.9 million. The teams formed by the Hesco management checked connections from July 2004 to Nov 2004 in all its five operation circles. -APP
