LAHORE: Kite-flying ban during marathon criticized

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Jan 25: The Anti-Kite Flying Democratic Front has criticized district Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood for imposing only a restriction on kite flying for preventing any untoward incident during the Lahore Marathon instead of imposing a permanent ban on it.

Addressing a meeting held here on Tuesday, Front Chairman Khawaja Izhar Amritsari said that there was no justification for allowing kite flying in provincial metropolis after the death of over 200 people injured by the thread of stray kites and recommendation of the committee constituted for examining the problem to allow it only at the specified open places.

The district Nazim was, however, giving the kite flyers another opportunity to play with the lives of the citizens to benefit a handful of dealers and hotel owners on the pretext of tourism promotion.

Mian Muhammad Munir, Rashid Pitras and Faisal Mahmood Khan said that the City District Government should not allow flying of kites and celebration of the Spring Festival following the large-scale destruction caused by tsunami in Asian countries. The Spring Festival should be cancelled and the funds allocated for the purpose should be donated for rehabilitation of the tsunami victims.
