Dhaka wants review of Saarc role

DHAKA, Jan 24: Bangladesh's Foreign Minister M. Morshed Khan said on Monday that the country would stress during the upcoming Saarc summit primarily on review up on progress the implementation of previous declarations , agreements and commitments made by the South Asian nations in the past.

"Two decades have already passed since the formation of the Saarc. It is, therefore, time that we start delivering the fruits of Saarc to the people," Morshed Khan told journalists at his office.

"For this we need to assess the situation now, immediately before stepping into the third decade." Mr Khan told reporters that Dhaka has finalized the Feb 6-7 summit programmes, initiating the pre-summit programmes from February 1. The programming committee comprising senior officials of Saarc countries will meet on Feb1-2.
