Amir crowned Asian junior champion


KARACHI, Jan 24: Top seeded Amir Atlas Khan grabbed the individual title of Asian junior squash championship defeating second seeded Saurav Ghousal from India at Chennai, India.

According to the details made available on Monday, Amir, the star player from Pakistan who upset all odds as an un seeded player to make it to the semi final stage of the 2004 World junior men's championship, proved his seeding by beating Saurav in four sets encounter in 52 minutes.

Amir dominated through out the final except for second set. Amir after winning the first set 9-1 dropped the second set 4-9. Saurav after leveling the set could not make the most of it.

Amir who went on rampage after losing the second set gave very little chance to his opponent on the way winning the next two sets with identical margins 9-3, 9-3.

There was no upsets on the final day, as in girls individual event top seeded Joshna Chinappa from India also reasserted her status taming second seeded Annie Au from Hong Kong after five sets grueling encounter.

FINAL RESULTS:

BOYS: Amir Atlas Khan (PAK) bt Saurav Ghosal (IND) 9-1, 4-9, 9-3, 9-3.

Girls: Joshana Chinappa (IND) bt Annie Au (HKG) 5-9, 3-9, 9-0, 9-5, 9-3. -PPI
