FAISALABAD: Police shoot robber in 'encounter'

FAISALABAD, Jan 24: An alleged outlaw was gunned down in an 'encounter' in Chak 187 GB in the area of Rajana police on Monday.

Samundri Saddar police said a team raided the house of Ghulam Shabbir alias Shabbiri, wanted in several robberies and snatching of weapons and wireless sets from police parties.

Police claimed that Shabbir opened fire on the party which was retaliated. During a crossfire, Shabbir was killed. Police said Shabbir had snatched rifles and wireless set from a police party. The incident was an embarrassment for the police and their high ups.

WARDER CAUGHT: A warder of the Central Jail was caught while providing opium to prisoners on Monday. Police said during body search, gate keepers recovered opium from warder Qaisar Iqbal. A case has been registered against the accused.
