GILGIT, Jan 23: The situation in the district remained calm on Sunday, but a night curfew continued. A press note issued by the deputy commissioner said that a curfew break was given between 7am and 5pm and the break would be given during the same timings on Monday.

A delegation, led by Sheikh Haider and Muzaffar Ali, held a meeting with the Northern Areas' chief secretary. They expressed confidence in the administration's efforts and urged it to accelerate the investigation into murder cases.

OUR SKARDU CORRESPONDENT ADDS: Eidul Azha passed peacefully and people celebrated the festival with traditional religious fervour in the two districts of Baltistan. Eid prayers were offered and Ulema stressed on the need for unity and peace.

Special prayers were offered for the security and solidarity of Pakistan. A press note issued by the deputy commissioner on Friday said that law and order situation remained peaceful and calm in the district.

No untoward incident was reported from Skardu and Ghangche districts. The press termed a news item published in a section of the press about demolition of a mosque in Skardu baseless and false. "Some shops and a school were damaged during the incident which occurred on Jan 13 in Skardu."
